Giant Navelwort
Giant Navelwort
I just had to share these monstorous beauties found in salt marsh lands. Never seen any so big and fleshy!
The amazing thing with navelwort is that their flavour can vary drastically from plant to plant, one will taste like watery lettuce and then the next will have more of a concentrated cucumber taste.
Needless to say I didn't get around to tasting these but it's got me wondering if the size of the leaf effects the flavour as well as it's habitat.
A lot of the plants found near salt marshes naturally have a salty flavour- sea purslane being an obvious example. So what about plants that don't normally grow there? Do they adopt this flavour from the salty brine that laps at their tendrils?
Something to research.
